Guwahati, December 5: Assam and Bhutan vow together to boost mutual relations on the lines of culture, sports and tourism. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a discussion with Royal Bhutanese Ambassador to India Vetsop Namgyel at Janata Bhawan on Monday and made a strong pitch for the growth of entire region including neighbouring Bhutan. 

Royal Bhutanese Ambassador to India Vetsop Namgyel gave a courtesy call to the CM Sonowal as the duo discussed on issues like cultural and sporting exchanges including tapping the tourism potential of both Assam and Bhutan.

Chief Minister Sonowal while informing the Ambassador Vetsop Namgyel about the upcoming Global Investors’ Summit to be held in Guwahati on 3 and 4 February invited Bhutan’s participation in the event.

Further Namgyel also expressed Bhutan’s keen interests in participating in the summit to present Bhutan in its entirety in Assam. He also said that given the account of tourism potential of the Himalayan regions, both Bhutan and Assam can enter into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism. He said that considering the sprawling tea gardens, unique and colourful culture and national parks Bhutan is looking forward to Assam to tap its high valued tourism destinations.

Chief Minister Sonowal also informed that given the sporting talents available in Assam, the state can help Bhutan in developing and promoting different sports in the Himalayan country.

Ambassador Namgyel invited CM Sonowal to Bhutan which he accepted in principle and vowed to extend Assam’s relations with Bhutan for the growth of both the territories.
