Islamabad, December 5: A Pakistani youth, Sajid Shah, has been arrested in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province for treason after he wrote ‘Hindustan Zindabad’ on the wall of his home.

According to Pakistani media reports, Police received information regarding the writing of a slogan in favour of Pakistan’s archrival, India, on the boundary wall of a house in Makhan Colony. The police raided the house and found a slogan “Hindustan Zindabad” on the wall.

Police arrested Sajid and registered a criminal case against him under section 505. Under the article he can get a jail term of up to seven years with a fine. After arresting the suspect, the police produced him before the magistrate, who sent him on one-day physical remand.

The local police said, Sajid, a 20-year-old accused, was a factory worker and enjoyed watching Indian movies and songs which impressed him, due to which he started praising India publicly.

Although the slogan itself is not specifically banned in Pakistan, it could be interpreted under section 505 of the law as incitement to mutiny, endangering the lives of military personnel or incitement to violence against the state.

In January last year, a Pakistani fan and lookalike of Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli was arrested for hoisting India's flag at his home as a tribute to him. He was charged but later acquitted.
