Alert BSF troops seize 55 kg heroin worth Rs 5 crore from Indo-Pak border

Chandigarh, December 7: Security forces and government both have intensified their efforts to wipe out the menace of drugs from Punjab. Notably, the Border Security Forces (BSF) on Wednesday seized at least 55 Kg heroin in the area of Border Out Post Rosse in Gurdaspur in Punjab.

 

A Border Security Force (BSF) patrol team on Wednesday evening at around 6.30 pm noted some suspicious movement ahead of a fence. BSF patrol team immediately challenged the intruders but they replied by small arms fire from the other side. However, after a brief exchange of fire, intruders successfully fled. One intruder got injured in the firing but he still managed to cross the border.

During the search, BSF personnel found 55 packets of contraband, a plastic pipe and two pistols. This is one of the biggest contraband seizures across the Indo-Pak border as the 55 Kg heroin worth 5 crore rupees recovered from the spot.

Official sources said the incident was reported at about 6:30 pm when a BSF patrol team detected some suspicious movement along the border post-Rosse. Sources said, there were three intruders, who were challenged and as the BSF party retaliated, they fled.

A senior BSF officer confirmed that in the initial search, 55 packets of contraband and two pistols were found. It is one of the biggest seizures of contraband along this border and the cache is estimated to be worth Rs 5 crore in the international market, he added.
