China, Pakistan and Afghanistan oppose Trump's decision regarding Jerusalem

Jerusalem, December 7: The US President Donald Trump’s move of recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and instruction of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, triggered wide criticism and concerns around the world.

Pakistan has strongly condemned the decision of the United States to recognize the occupied Al Quds Al Sharif as the so-called capital of Israel. Earlier, in a statement, the Prime Minister's office said that Pakistan also unequivocally opposes shifting of the US embassy to Al-Quds Al Sharif.

“Condemnation of Trump's move poured in from all capitals of Islamic countries over Trump's announcement, which could ignite violent protests across the Islamic world.”

The statement said that decision represents a serious violation of international law and applicable UN Security Council resolutions. It further said that Pakistan shares the international outrage and is deeply concerned over the implications of this decision for international peace and security, especially in the Middle East. Pakistan has also welcomed the announcement by Turkey to convene an Extraordinary Islamic Summit next week to discuss this serious issue.

Meanwhile, the Afghan Presidential Palace (ARG) said the Afghan government has expressed its deep concerns with the United States leadership through diplomatic channels over the matter.

“The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan understands the deep concerns of the Muslim people of the country and the Muslims world,” the Presidential Palace said in a statement on Thursday. “The government of Afghanistan has already shared its deep concerns with US leadership through diplomatic channels about recognition of the Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transferring of US embassy to the city.”

“The decision has affected the feeling of Muslims around the world and it will threaten peace in the Middle East. Therefore, any unilateral move in this respect, without the participation of Palestine, will not result in a positive and permanent solution (to the problem),” ARG says in the statement.

The US President Donald Trump on Wednesday formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel instructing the Department of State to shift the US embassy from Tel Aviv.

“Today we finally acknowledge the obvious: that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital,” he said.

Trump further added that Washington still supports a two-state solution to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict, if approved by both sides.
