Indian skipper Virat Kohli acquires second position in Test rankings

Dubai, December 7: Skipper Virat Kohli, the gem of Indian cricket acquired the second position in the MRF Tyres ICC Rankings for Test Batsmen that was released on Thursday. Notably, Virat Kohli has moved up three places to grab the second position among batsmen in Test rankings.

 

Indian skipper rose in the rankings after India drew the Delhi Test against Sri Lanka yesterday and claimed the 3-match series, 1-0. Kohli’s first-innings knock of 243 was followed with 50 as he finished with 610 runs in the series, which India won 1-0. Kohli, who slammed back-to-back double-centuries and recorded three-figure scores in three consecutive matches, started the series in the sixth position but has leapfrogged David Warner, Cheteshwar Pujara, Kane Williamson and Joe Root after the stupendous run which saw him average 152.50.

The Indian captain is the current No. 1 in ODIs and T20 formats. Root is third behind Smith and Kohli, with Pujara fourth, Williamson fifth and Warner at sixth. Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal has gained eight places to take the ninth spot.

In the Test Team Rankings, India has lost one point but remains well ahead of South Africa at the top. England is third. In the Rankings for Bowlers, Briton James Anderson is the leader, with South African Kagiso Rabada second. Ravindra Jadeja is third and Ravichandran Ashwin is fourth.
