Haryana to host mock earthquake drill for better preparedness

Chandigarh, December 7: With the change in climate, the rise in global warming natural disasters are also becoming more powerful. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is also taking more actions for better preparedness. Now NDMA will hold the first State-level Mock Exercise on the earthquake in Haryana for better response mechanism.

The exercise will be held jointly in collaboration with the Haryana State Disaster Management Authority (HSDMA). The mock exercise will comprise the following planned episodic activities. On the first day, Coordination Conference will be held. Table Top Exercise on the second day will be followed by the Mock Exercise on December 21, 2017. If any gaps noticed during the exercise, better preparedness will be discussed.

The exercise will be conducted on the principle of Incident Response System (IRS), which identifies stakeholders and clearly attributes roles and responsibilities to each one of them.

It will also generate awareness among the local population about the Do's and Don'ts to be followed before, during and after an earthquake. NDMA has so far conducted more than 600 mock exercises in different States and Union Territories for various disaster situations in its efforts to improve preparedness and response during for various disaster situations.
