Railways to beautify its 400 stations by redeveloping it

New Delhi, December 8: If you are going outstation by train and you see station with proper seating arrangements, Pure drinking water booth, Clean platforms, WI Fi sevices etc. all these facilities will fascinate you but it will a reality soon as Indian Railways has tied up with IRSDC as nodal agency for station redevelopment plan.

In this ambitious project around 400 stations will be redeveloped to make them A1 and A grade stations. This project costs Rs 1 lakh Cr. the railways will also monetize around 2700 acres of spare railway land.

The first phase of the redevelopment was launched in February this year with 23 stations under previous railways minister Suresh Prabhu.

The appointment of IRSDC, a joint-venture between Ircon International Ltd and Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), took place following recommendations from a three-member committee of experts, which had submitted its report in November, railway ministry sources told.

The redeveloped stations will be designed to provide services such as digital signage, Wi-Fi, escalators, automatic ticket-vending systems for self-service, executive lounges, restaurants, and malls. The committee, comprising the railway board secretary, advisor station redevelopment and executive director station re-development, submitted its report in November.

The IRSDC, on the other hand, said it has not received any communication regarding the appointment yet.
