Indian shooters bagged five medals at 10th Asian Airgun Shooting Championships in Japan

Wako City, December 9: Indian shooters bagged five medals including four bronze medal and a silver on the opening day of the 10th Asian Airgun Shooting Championships which is being held in Wako City, Japan.

 

Notably, Ravi Kumar won an individual bronze in the men's 10 metre air rifle and gave a strong start for the Indian campaign, while Arjun Babuta won individual silver in the corresponding junior men's event. Indian contingent also clinched three team silver medals in each of the three air rifle events.

Ravi Kumar, who is with the Indian Air Force (IAF,) defeated his compatriot Gagan Narang in a shoot-off to progress to the bronze medal, behind the two Chinese Song Buhan and Cao Yifei. After making the finals in three World Cups this season, including the World Cup Final at home, Ravi was finally able to reach a medal.

On the other side, Arjun Babuta won the junior men’s individual silver medal 0.1 point behind Liu Yukun of China who equaled the junior world record of 249.8. Arjun trailed by 0.2 points before the last two shots, and the Chinese held on to the advantage to nose ahead.

In the women’s 10m air rifle, Anjum Moudgil and Meghana Sajjanar made it to the finals, shooting scores of 417.5 and 415.9 to qualify for second and fourth positions respectively. Overall, India had seven individual finalists across the three events held on Friday. This will be the same range where the shooting competitions for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be hosted.
