Madhya Pradesh to launch special drive for doubling farmers’ income

Bhopal, September 12: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has issued instructions that special drive should be conducted by all agricultural departments to double farmers' income for next five years.

The Chief Minister issued these instructions in Agriculture Cabinet meeting held here today. Members of Agriculture Cabinet and officials of concerned departments were present in the meeting.

 

Chouhan said that all departments concerned should make serious efforts, following different and innovative steps and give maximum efforts. Farmers' income can be increased by planned efforts.

“Milk production has huge prospects. Work in mission mode for increase in milk production. Make efforts on war footing for increasing production. It would help in rise of farmers' income,” Singh said.

He further directed that the top officials to launch a campaign to improve quality of animal as well as efforts should be made to increase fishermen's income by increasing fishery production in state. “Planned efforts should be made for sericulture production. It should be ensured that no shortage of electricity remains for irrigation”, he added.

It was informed in the meeting that ten lakh new members will be incorporated in primary agriculture cooperatives societies. All farmers in the state will be linked with cooperatives. Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) is being provided to all farmers. Plan has been made to increase irrigation capacity up to 57 lakh hectare by the year 2022 in the state.

Similarly, 22 lakh hectare irrigation capacities will be developed through micro irrigation. Madhya Pradesh is at the third position after Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in milk production. Special efforts are being made for livestock development.

Fishery production is more than the national average in reservoirs in the state. Target has been set to increase fishery production from 1.15 lakh metric tonne to 2 lakh m. tonne in next five years.

Moreover, Chief Minister Chouhan released five books published by agriculture department - Hundred decision in hundred days, price difference scheme, success story of intermediate crops, success story of organic farming and block level atlas of Gaun-Saksham Tatv.
