Hurrah! 170 Indians evacuated till now from Hurricane #Irma-hit Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten, September 13: At least 170 Indians and Indian-origin people have been evacuated till now from the hurricane-hit Caribbean island of Sint Maarten and brought to the Caribbean island of Curacao. However, in the process 30 other nationals were also evacuated.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar on Wednesday posted a tweet which read, “The spl flight chartered by the Govt of India just arrived in Curaçao with 110 Indian & Indian origin evacuees from Sint Maarten.”

Few hours later, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the second flight carrying 60 Indians also landed in Curacao. “Rahul Srivastava informed that second flight also landed in Curacao with 60 Indians and 30 others from St.Maarten,” Minister Swaraj said on twitter. The Minister also added saying, “Indian envoy in Venezuela Rahul Srivastava has informed that 60 other people were also evacuated along with Indians from the hurricane-hit place.”

Earlier, on Monday, leading from the front to evacuate all the Indian nationals from the hurricane-hit Caribbean island of Sint Maarten, the External Affairs Ministry has made all the necessary arrangements. Due to Irma hurricane, the death toll has risen to four. Hurricane Irma lashed Sint Maarten badly damaging or destroying 70 percent of homes in the Dutch part of the Caribbean island.

Sint Maarten, that is jointly administered by France and the Netherlands suffered widespread destruction after the storm made landfall last week and wreaked havoc on the Caribbean islands.
