New Delhi, September 14: Centre Government has begins ‘Operation Insaniyat’ for assisting Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh on the humanitarian ground. The move comes at a time when government is set to deport illegal Rohingya infiltrators from country.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “In response to the humanitarian crisis being faced on account of the large influx of refugees into Bangladesh, Government has decided to extend assistance to Bangladesh.”

“The relief material consists of items required urgently by the affected people, namely rice, pulses, sugar, salt, cooking oil, tea, ready to eat noodles, biscuits, mosquito nets etc. The relief material will be delivered in multiple consignments, the first tranche of which will be brought to Chittagong by an Indian Air Force plane on Thursday,” MEA informed.

India has always responded readily and swiftly to any crisis in Bangladesh, in keeping with the close ties of friendship between the peoples of India and Bangladesh. India stands ready to provide any assistance required by Government of Bangladesh in this hour of need, statement added.

Earlier, Bangladesh has urged the International community to come up with urgent humanitarian assistance to help the country address the Rohingya refugee crisis.

Foreign minister Mahmood Ali requested the international community to help Bangladesh with urgent aids for the Rohingyas, their transportation to a new camp at Cox’s Bazar’s Kutupalong, and political support to ensure their safe return to their homes in Myanmar.

Mahmood Ali informed that around 300,000 Rohingyas have entered Bangladesh in last two weeks, taking the total number of Myanmar nationals currently living here to 700,000 from 400,000.

The foreign minister told the diplomats that Bangladesh always preferred bilateral solution to this longstanding problem and was successful in repatriating 236,599 Rohingyas through a bilateral agreement in 1992.
