Centre to double Farmer's Income by 2022

New Delhi, September 14: With the goal of doubling the income of the farmers by 2022, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) had organised ceremonies in 562 districts of the country between August 19 to September 11, 2017, in which 47,08,47 farmers and agricultural workers have participated.

To improve the economic conditions of the farmers, PM Narendra Modi has asked the Agricultural Ministry to achieve the target by 2022 for which the implementation of schemes is in progress to increase the income of the farmers.

The ceremonies were attended by many State and Central Government officers, Agricultural officers, Students. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan attended one of the events while Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh attended five ceremonies. 49 Central Ministers participated in pledge taking ceremonies at 79 Districts. In 284 Districts, Members of Parliament attended the program. In 111 Districts, State Ministers attended the program. In 350 Districts, the MLAs attended the program. In 398 Districts, Chairman of District Panchayat attended the program.

As on November 2016, the average income of farmers in India was around Rs 6,000 mark; those who cultivate in the lands of Punjab had more than double of the average income. Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare said, “the average income per agricultural household from various sources is estimated at Rs. 6,426/- per month during the reference period of the agricultural year July 2012 to June 2013.”
