Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu progress to semi finals at Korea SS Open

Seoul, September 15: Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu continues her good run at the Korea Super Series badminton tournament and registered a thrilling win over her opponent to storm into the semifinals on Friday. However, men’s doubles contention for India gets over as Sameer Verma was outclassed by the world no. 1 Son Wan Ho in the quarter finals.

 

PV Sindhu advanced to her second Superseries semi-final this year after defeating Japan's Minatsu Mitani by 21-19, 16-21, 21-10 in the quarterfinals of the Korea Open. Sindhu remained solid from the start of the match while Mitani tried to be aggressive but didn’t match up to Indian. Sindhu kept scoring points continuously at every interval and won the exciting match that was played for an hour and three minutes.

Sindhu will next face the winner of the match between China's He Bingjiao and South Korea's Sung Ji Hyun in the semi-finals on Saturday. PV Sindhu reached quarter finals after defeating Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol by 22-20, 21-17.

On the other side, Sameer Verma bowed out of the tournament after losing 22-20, 10-21, 13-21 to top seed Son Wan Ho in the quarterfinals. Sameer Verma had advanced to the last eight after defeating eighth-seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in the opening round and world no. 13 Wong Wing Ki Vincent in the last 16.

Indian men's doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will face the third-seeded Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda in the last eight later on Friday.
