First Odia Language University to come up for imparting Odia literature in state

Bhubaneswar, September 15: Odisha to get its first Odia Language University as the state Assembly on Thursday passed two Bills, the University of Odia Language and Literature Bill, 2017 and the Odisha Service of Engineers (Validation of Appointment) Amendment Bill, 2017 following a discussion. 

Setting up university aims to make Odia script more adaptable to computer technology. This Odia University will be for post-graduate students in literature, linguistics and epigraphy.

While the University of Odia Language and Literature Bill provides for the establishment of an Odia Language University for research, development and promotion of Odia language, the second Bill validated 799 Assistant Engineers (Civil), 55 Assistant Engineers (Mechanical) and 25 Assistant Engineers (Electrical).

This Odia University will help to facilitate the study and research in Odia language and literature. Higher Education Minister Ananta Das said the proposed varsity will impart education at the post graduate level on different areas of Odia literature, Odia language linguistics, comparative literature, Odia criticism, antique, ancient record, and evolution of East Indian language scripts, tribal language study, regional language study, epigraphy, archaeology and musicology.
