Jaipur, September 15: Giving up a massive relief to farmers of Rajasthan, the state government has announced to waive off all farm loans up to Rs 50,000 per farmer. Notably, Rajasthan has now become the third BJP rule state after Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh to waive farm loans.

Rajasthan government on Wednesday late night announced to waive off all farm loans up to Rs 50,000 per farmer after a marathon meeting with farmer groups All India Kisan Sabha who had been agitating since September 1. However, the decision came in the wake of a 13-day farmer protest, which originated in Sikar and spread to other districts.

The state government made an agreement with All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) over loan waiver scheme. According to the agreement, farm loans up to Rs 50,000 will be waived off. The Vasundhara Raje-led government has also constituted a committee of experts to study farm loan waivers offered in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala and others. The committee will submit a report in a month’s time.

All India Kisan Sabha, an affiliate of the CPM which led the farmer protests in 14 districts of the state, including Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Churu, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Bikaner, however, has withdrawn the agitation on Thursday. The agitation was so massive that state government invited All India Kisan sabha for talks which lasted for 11 hours.
