Over five lakh affordable houses to come up in urban areas of Andhra Pradesh under PMAY (Urban)

Hyderabad, September 17: Over five lakh affordable houses will be built in urban areas of Andhra Pradesh under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in the next 15 months said Minister of Housing and Urban Development P Narayana. 

Minister of Housing and Urban Development P Narayana informed the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Puri that the State Government spent considerable time in identifying appropriate technology for constructing houses under PMAY (Urban) while at the same time conform to the norms for disaster resilience etc.

Minister Narayana said that after detailed consideration, the state government chose ‘shear wall’ technology for this purpose and recently Foundation Stone was laid for construction of over one lakh dwelling units under PMAY (Urban). He stated that construction of 5.39 Lakh houses for urban poor sanctioned by the central government under PMAY (Urban) will be completed in the next 15 months. The state minister also discussed the proposal for Vijayawada Metro Rail project.
