Majority of Kenyans satisfied with the October 17 date for rerun of presidential election

Nairobi, September 2017: The last presidential poll in Kenya has created a chaotic situation in the African country. The Supreme Court of Kenya declared the results of last month’s presidential poll “invalid, null and void” and ordered the election be re-run within 60 days. While ruling party and opposition both showed various setbacks of the October 17 date for the fresh presidential election, 84% Kenyans are happy with this date.

A popular survey conducting company in Kenya Infotrak research recently took a survey regarding new date. Majority of Kenyans want the repeat presidential elections to be held on October 17 as announced by the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC).

Along with this, the company conducted a telephonic survey on the cancellation of the last poll. The survey result revealed that 77 percent of likely voters were satisfied by the September 1 decision by the Supreme Court.

“Elections is not an event but a process. After considering the totality of the entire evidence, we are satisfied that the elections were not conducted in accordance with the dictates of the Constitution and the applicable principles," Chief justice David Maraga said during judgement.

On 11th August President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner of the election. The result prompted celebration and violence at the same time. Opposition leader Odinga rejected the result instantly.
