Top officials from Russia, US discuss major areas of conflict like Syria, Ukraine

Moscow, September 17: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephonic conversation with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson regarding the Syria situation. Russian Foreign Ministry published a statement on its Facebook page where it said they also discussed how the “anti-terrorism” battle on the ground was playing out.

The two officials from nations discussed "the current situation in the Syrian settlement, including tasks of anti-terrorism struggle "on the ground," implementation of decisions made during the international meeting on Syria in Astana on September 14-15 and preparations for another round of political process in Geneva," the ministry said.

Ukraine is one of the major areas of US-Russia present conflict. Since a long time, the US has been alleging of Russia’s “forceful invasion” in Ukraine. The diplomats also discussed the need to intensify efforts to implement the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the crisis in the South-East of Ukraine.

Recently Russian forces struck a target east of the Euphrates River in Syria near Dayr Az Zawr, causing injuries to Coalition partner forces. Though the statement does not say if the leaders talked about the allegation or not.
