Cantonment Boards of Western Command felicitated with ODF Certificate by Defence Minister
Kasauli, September 17: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday felicitated eight cantonment boards out of 13 under western command with Open Defecation Free (ODF) certificates at Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh issued by the quality council of India.
Defence Minister also congratulated for achieving ODF in eight cantonments to Defence Estates Department and said that by December 15, 2017 all the Cantonment boards shall be ODF. The eight Cantonment Boards are Kasauli, Dagshai, Subathu, Jutogh, Dalhousie, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ferozepur.
There was also a requirement of multi-level parking at kasauli bus stand for which a sum of Rs.15 crore was announced by the minister and shall fetch positive result in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The main objective of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is to eliminate open defacation and by October 02, 2019 government is aiming to achieve an ODF India to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
According to the ODF status of India, only two states namely Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and one city Chandigarh have got 100% ODF.
