Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu bags Korea SS Open title; creates history

Seoul, September 17: Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu showing up a gritty performance at the Korea Super Series badminton tournament on Sunday clinched the title. However, PV Sindhu has created a history after becoming the first Indian to bag Korea Super Series Open. 

Notably, Sindhu registered an emphatic 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 victory over Nozomi Okuhara in the women's singles thrilling final of the Korea Open. The epic final between Sindhu and Okuhara lasted for one hour and 24 minutes in which Indian got better.


Sindhu started well but Okuhara didn’t remain behind in earning points. The Japanese shuttler went on to notch up two game points, but Sindhu fought back with four straight points to clinch the first. However, Okuhara started the second set with a high tempo and clinched 11 points and then extended 10-game point-lead, eventually clinching it 21-11, to take the match to a deciding game.


Making a comeback in the decider, PV Sindhu dominated the third set and clinched some crucial points. The third set lasted for 56 minutes with PV Sindhu winning the title. Earlier, in the semifinals, Sindhu defeated South Korea's Sung Ji Hyun. Sindhu earlier clinched the 2016 China Super Series Premier and India Open Super Series and Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold this season.


Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh, Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathod, Vijay Goel, Jayant Sinha and many others extended their best wishes to PV Sindhu through social media.
