Typhoon Talim hits southwestern Japan, disrupts transport massively in major areas

Tokyo, September 17: Typhoon Talim landed on Japan’s the southern island of Kyushu has disrupted Japan's air and land transport network. It has caused heavy wind and rain. The typhoon which was expected to make landfall around noon (1300 AEST) landed in the city of Minami-Kyushu around local time 11:30 a.m.

On Sunday more than 570 domestic flights, most arriving or departing in airports of Kyushu, neighboring Shikoku Island and the Chugoku region was canceled. The number could increase after the expected landfall.

Not only air services but also bullet train services got disrupted due to the severe weather condition. All major regional train services have been suspended.

The typhoon is expected to rip through Western Japan. Hence rough area may affect large areas of the country. Previously Japan Meteorological Agency warned of strong winds, high waves, and mudslides. The storm was moving at 30km/h in an east-northeast direction, driving winds of up to 162km/h. The rain was expected in many areas including Tokyo.

When the typhoon approached Japan's southernmost main island of Kyushu, its force slightly weakened. The strong category is no more applicable.
