Panaji, September 18: Remember the incident in Goa, where two drunk people came over the motorcycle at Petroleum Pump and started cracking fires? This would have gone fatal like it would have caused a blast at that petrol pump. To avoid such nuisance, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that soon Goa will ban drinking in public spaces.

On Sunday while announcing the notification on banning drinking in public places, CM Manohar Parrikar said that the idea behind it is to curb nuisance created by people in a drunken state. Earlier, the state had banned drinking on beaches, saying strict action would be taken against the offenders, and if need be, they could even be arrested.

In the latest ban on drinking in public areas, the state has decided to impose fines or cancel the license of the liquor shops that allow people to drink near its compound, added the Chief Minister. The necessary amendments to the Goa, Daman and Diu Excise Act, 1964 will be done next month.
