Indian women boxers clinched 10 medals at Ahmet Comert youth boxing tournament

Istanbul, September 18: Indian contingent showed up a dominating performance at the Ahmet Comert youth boxing tournament for women and finished the tour after clinching 10 medals. India signed off the tournament with one gold, four silver and three bronze medals which were held in Istanbul, Turkey.

 

Soniya was the only one who gave a gold medal to the country after defeating Kazakhstan's Zhazira Urakabeva in her summit clash. However, rest of the four Indians who reached in finals had to settle for silver after losing their summit clash.

Niharika Gonella in 75 Kg category lost to Kazakhstan's Shamonova Anastasiia, Shashi Chopra in 57 Kg category was also bested by a Kazakh in Vladislava Kukhta, Parveen in 54 Kg category was defeated by Russia's Anastasiia Artamonova and Ankushita Boro in the 64kg category went down to Kazakhstan's Zhazira Urakabeva and won the silver medal.

 

Earlier, Tilotama Chanu in 60 kg, Jyoti Gulia in the 48kg category, Lalita in the 64kg category and Manisha in 69kg category clinched bronze medals after losing their respective semi-final matches. Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore extended his wishes to Indian contingent via twitter. He tweeted saying, “W/1 Gold,4 Silver &4 Bronze, India Youth Women's Boxing Team is 3rd overall at 31st Ahmet Cörmet Boxing Tournament,Turkey! Well done champs!”
