CM Yogi along with four BJP leaders sworn in as Legislative Council member

Lucknow, September 18: Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath took oath as an Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Parishad member in Lucknow on Monday after resigning from Gorakhpur constituency in August. 

Along with CM Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, Dr Dinesh Sharma, Transport Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, and Minority Affairs minister Mohsin Raza also took the oath for the legislative council. The five ministers were administered the oath by Vidhan Parishad Chairman Ramesh Yadav.

 

The elections were conducted on six UP legislative council’s seats which were vacated by members including five from Samajwadi Party (SP) Bukkal Nawab, Yashwant Singh, Sarojini Agarwal, Ashok Bajpai and Ambika Chaudhary and one from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLC Thakur Jaivir Singh.

After the result, SP still has the Majority in the upper house but BJP strength has increased by five seats. Total of 100 seats in UP Legislative Council, BJP reached to13 seats while SP has 61, BSP is with 9 members (with one member expelled), INC has 2 seats, RLD has 1 seat. While 7 are Independent members, 5 Nominated teachers and still 2 seats are vacant.
