Japan, Russia agree to work together on critical situation in Korean Peninsula

New York, September 19: Against the backdrop of North Korea situation, security concern has grown highly among all neighboring countries of North Korea. Japan and Russia both the countries despite disagreement on different issues, agreed to work together at UNSC to address the nuclear nuke threat. Foreign Ministers of both the country met on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.

Kono told that the common goal of two countries is the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Lavrov also said Moscow thinks permanent security dialogue with Tokyo is needed. They also exchanged views on the future of joint economic activities on a chain of Russia-held, Japan-claimed islands.

"We think that permanent dialogue is needed between Russia and Japan on security in Northeastern Asia, first of all, because of the critical situation on the Korean Peninsula. In this context, today’s possibility to exchange opinions on that and other matters is very valuable," Lavrov said.

"Japan and Russia are of the same understanding that (this includes) the enforcement of (U.N. Security Council) resolutions," Kono said.

Recently Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe - held very important talks on the margins of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. Kono and Lavrov both argued that the talk was very constructive.
