New York, September 19: It was expected that North Korea issue would be one of the main topic of discussion during this UN General assembly held in New York. Japan, an all-weather friend of India faced two terror threats in one fortnight is concerned much. On this issue, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that North Korea's proliferation linkages must be explored and those involved must be held accountable.

In this context, one important thing to be mentioned that in last week some media sources claimed that during Japan PM Shinzo Abe’s visit to India he told Arun Jaitley that there might be some connection between North Korea and Pakistan. This comment from Sushma Swaraj may indicate to that reference, though she did not refer to any country directly. When questioned about this, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the hints were enough to determine that.

On the sidelines of UN General Assembly meeting, EAM had a Ministerial Trilateral with US Secretary of State Tillerson and Japanese FM Kono. The Ministers emphasized the need for ensuring freedom of navigation, respect for international law and peaceful resolution of disputes.
