New York, September 21: India wants connectivity to pave the way for cooperation and trust between our societies. This was said by India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday while speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet on the sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York.

Minister Sushma also strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Minister Sushma Swaraj said there can be no justification for any act of terrorism. She further said that connectivity with the SCO countries is India's priority. “India wants connectivity to pave the way for cooperation and trust between our societies,” the Minister added.

Minister Sushma Swaraj further noted that India, as a member of SCO, will cooperate extensively to further consolidate the SCO as an effective regional platform. Reaffirming the need for early reforms in the UN Security Council, G4 nations issued a joint statement after a meeting of Foreign Ministers of the G4 nations which was attended by Minister Swaraj.

However, in the joint statement, G4 members recognised that members of UN increased has gone up from 51 in 1945 to 193 today and that the current composition of UN Security Council does not reflect changed global realities. The G4 Foreign Ministers stressed that UNSC needs to reflect today's world in order to tackle complex challenges. They reiterated their resolve to encourage launching text-based negotiation during the current session of General Assembly.
