Mumbai, September 24: Coral reef is a beautiful natural wonder which is now endangered due to increasing pollution overfishing, warming, changing ocean chemistry. The survival of Coral reef is highly doubted under emerging circumstances. A recent study reveals globally reefs have a chance of long-term survival if warming is limited to under 2 degree Celsius.
To widen the chances of helping coral reefs to survive human race has to take control over pollution, overfishing. The report says economic systems must become sustainable and circular, minimising waste as well as emissions to counter pollution.
“We need urgent global action to curb greenhouse gas emissions if we are to help reefs survive the devastating wave of coral bleaching we have seen over the last three years, and that will further intensify in the future,” says David Obura.
Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals work as a framework for that action. Hence to save the natural wonder Coral Reef World leaders need to follow the frameworks.
