President Kovind in Uttarakhand, visits Divya Prem Seva Mission and speaks on ‘Namami Gange’ and nature preservation

Dehradun, September 24: Last week, BJP Chief Amit Shah visited Uttarakhand with a massive celebratory arrival at the airport. His visit made the citizens of the state hopeful of the coming development. President Ramnath Kovind also began his maiden two-day visit to Uttarakhand where he’ll be addressing many meetings.
Both Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Governor KK Paul received him with a grand celebration at the airport in Dehradun. At the first leg of his state tour, Kovind paid his obeisance at the Himalayan shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath besides worshipping the Ganga in Haridwar.
He addressed the state people at the Divya Prem Seva Mission on Saturday speaking on India’s rich culture and Uttarakhand’s famous rivers. He said, “Govind Vallabh Pant and Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna were born in Uttarakhand and have left an indelible mark in the country. Also, Uttarakhand always had an air of holiness due to the rivers originating from the state.”
The President highlighted the legacy and efforts of the state in the area of ecological conservation. People associated with the 'Chipko Andolan' used to sing a song that goes, ‘Our soil, Our water, Our forest; Our forefathers nurtured these. We will certainly save them'. Uttarakhand has to achieve its development goals within this framework of environmental protection. There is need to maintain the right balance between conservation and development.
Furthermore, he also visited the Seva Kunj Ashram in Haridwar where the physically challenged people work. However, President Kovind left for Kedarnath and Badrinath in the morning today. At the Raj Bhawan, he participated in a tree plantation program a while back.
