Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat scheme launched in Gujarat to provide LPG connections among rural areas

Gandhinagar, September 24: With an aim to provide LPG connections among the rural areas where conventional fuel is used for domestic purposes in Gujarat, the central government in associate with state launched the Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat.

 

Notably, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani jointly launched the Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat at Mota Ishanpur village in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat on Saturday. The union minister and the chief minister also unveiled the logo PM LPG Panchayat. The Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat is an additional or backup scheme to Ujjwala Yojana.

While addressing the public on this occasion, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the central government has so far provided LPG connection to 8.5 crore households in less than three years as against 14 crore connections provided by the Congress government. He also said that the LPG connection has played a vital role in empowering women and saved lives of lakhs of women who die due to health complications arising out of use of traditional means of fuel like wood.

Minister Pradhan also stated that that total one lakh Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayats would be organized across the country in next one and half year to provide an interactive platform to the rural LPG users. Minister Pradhan said that 40 percent of Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries in Gujarat are tribals and Dalits. He said his ministry has also increased LPG distribution centres, with 106 new distribution centres added in the last one and half years in Gujarat alone.

Minister Pradhan handed over free LPG connection to the beneficiary of PMUY Kokilaben Parmar. She is the third crore beneficiary under the scheme. “Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat is an initiative of the government to reach the doorsteps of poor and underprivileged women to educate them about the safety and efficiency, health benefits, positive impact on the environment, economic development and empowerment on the usage of LPG connections,” the petroleum minister concluded.

Minister Pradhan also inaugurated the Skill Development Institute at Adalaj near Ahmedabad as part of the National Skill Development Mission. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also present on this occasion.
