Applauds for Newton! Wins an entry to Oscars 2018 with standing ovations from the critics'

New Delhi, September 24: Not a commercial film but a well-laced film, Newton enters the race to Oscars 2018. Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao broke loose the news on Twitter. The Film Federation of India (FII), an autonomous trade body authorized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences selected Newton for the Oscars this time.
Newton was selected over entries like Aamir Khan's Dangal and Mukti Bhavan. The film, directed by Amit Masurkar, starring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav and Anjali Patil, tells the story of an election official in charge of a polling station in a conflict-ridden region in the eastern state of Chhattisgarh.
In February, Newton was premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and won the CICAE award for best film in the Forum segment. In April, at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, it won the Jury Prize for Young Cinema. It was also nominated for a jury award at the Tribeca Film Festival for Best International Narrative Feature.
The film has earned all the critics’ respect. Newton debuted on Friday with minimal revenue of $131,000 on Friday. After the brilliant news, the capital is expected to rise for the film. However, this is not the first time Rajkummar Rao has acted his best on-screen. He has won the National Award for his performance in Shahid along with his other eclectic nominations.

The heartbreaking tale of an honest man named Nutan Kumar, who is an election official. The film gives you a well-defined detour of adivasis’ rural lives consisting of apathy, poverty, ignorance and lack of connectivity with the outside world. The story is heft and is embodied with wisdom. A definite must for everyone!
