New Delhi, September 24: Swachhta Pakhwada’ and ‘Swachhta hi Seva Abhiyaan’ is being conducted by the Ministry of Culture and its 43 organisations to create a massive awareness among all stakeholders of the society. During the current Swachhta Pakhwada, various autonomous, attached and subordinated organisations under the Ministry of Culture have undertaken more than 100 activities such as Shramdan by staff (cleanliness drive), various lectures, seminars, competitions, nukkad natak and painting exhibitions with an objective of dissemination of the message of Swachh Bharat widely.

Under Swacchta Pakhawada, many people take up cleanliness and promote it across their locality. Some take street play as their initiative to put across the message. Like, Nukkad Natak is being used by the Delhi Public Library. In Kolkata, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies took the swacchta drive with just not cleaning, but creating awareness among the future Indians to maintain the clean environment by tree plantation. Many states have adapted their own initiatives and are contributing their best towards the drive.

However, one of the best initiatives was taken by Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sanghralaya. They had commenced a marathon walk around Delhi spreading cleanliness messages through slogans and distributing garbage bags for proper disposal of litter. It was a smart move and very effective.

Swacchta Pakhwada: It is a part of Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan. The main objective of the Swachhta Pakhwada has been ‘cleanliness, inside out’ – to sensitize and ensure good health and hygiene by providing women and children with awareness on clean and safe environment, personal health, hygiene and good practices including hand washing on cleanliness, in order to create safe, healthy, clean and green environment. The Swachhta Pakhwada programme was flagged off from Karnal, Haryana on 1st March, 2017. Ms. Leena Nair, Secretary WCD chaired the events organized at Chandigarh.
