‘Pralay Sahayam’ conducted to tackle urban flooding scenarios

 Hyderabad, September 24: The final event of Pralay Sahayam was conducted on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad on Saturday. A multi-agency exercise, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and the Armed Forces towards jointly tackled an urban flooding scenario. 

 
The Hussain Sagar Lake was transformed into partly submerged under water urban colonies for the purpose of the exercise. A large number of dummy structures were erected in the lake in an inundated condition. The structures depicted multi-storied buildings and houses with stranded people, power stations, educational institutes etc. The joint operations carried out by the State Government agencies, Police, State Fire & Emergency Services, NDRF, CISF and the Armed Forces. A highly synchronized Search and Rescue operation in the flooded colonies carried out by Special Forces such as the Army Commandos and Marine Commandos from the Indian Navy.
 
In coordinating conduct of the joint operations, the exercise brought out the role and function of the State Emergency Operations. Agencies like Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) was emphasized on the basis of early warning systems significance.
 
 
Evacuation of rescued people, provisioning of medical care and distribution of essential supplies these types of relief activities were carried out by multiple agencies in a well-coordinated and effective manner.
