Saurav Ghoshal storms into final of Macau Open Squash Championship

Macau, September 24: National squash champion Saurav Ghosal on Saturday sailed to the finals of the Macau Open Squash Championship which is being held in Macau, China. India's leading player Saurav Ghosal defeated the top seed Simon Rosner of Germany in five games 11-5, 5-11, 11-6, 11-13, 11-4 in a thrilling semi-final.

 

Saurav ranked 28 in the world showed top quality game with extraordinary confidence and had a thrilling victory over his opponent Simon Rosner. Simon did the comeback in the second set but was not sufficient and lost three sets in a row. Ghoshal played aggressively in the first round of the game and maintained the lead later in the third, fourth and fifth set. The match was played over an hour.

In a summit clash, Saurav Ghoshal will take on second seed Egyptian Mohamed Abouelghar. Earlier in the semi-finals round, Saurav Ghosal defeated Hong Kong's Tsz FungYip and registered an 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 win in 38 minutes. However, Harinder Pal Sandhu lost 11-1, 8-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-2 to fifth-seeded Egyptian Omar Mosaad, in a closely contested match.

On the other side, in the women's section Janet Vidhi, who was the only Indian trying to qualify for the main draw, lost in the qualifying phase. Macau Open is a major Professional Squash Association, PSA world tour event.
