Sub-Saharan leaders call for increased UN aid to counter terrorism in the region

New York, September 24: The ongoing violence in Sub Saharan Africa is a global concern. The innocent residents are suffering limitless misery due to the bad security situation. Citing this problem, regional leaders at the United Nations General Assembly’s annual general debate called on the United Nations to provide sufficient resources.

In the earlier part of this year, UN Security Council endorsed the formation the G5 Sahel joint force, comprising Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger. The aim was to counter the terrorism problem and organized crime to bring back in the region which is at unrest.

“Multifaceted support from the international community and our Organization is indispensable,” Chadian Foreign Minister Hussein Brahim Taha said. Chad is a landlocked country in Central Africa. It is bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east. He also mentioned mass migrant crisis due to various problems including climate change.

“What is at stake in the Sahel is a battle not only for regional peace and security but also for international peace and security,” Foreign Minister Ibrahim Yacoubou from Niger, another country from West Africa said.
