Mumbai, September 25: It is an extreme stretch to the patience of students who still haven’t received their degree certificates, what can be more unfortunate? Though Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed to speed up the process and give out their results. On Sunday Governor Vidyasagar also directed the acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, Professor Devanand Shinde, to declare 'expeditiously and on top priority' the results of all the 11,981 students whose results are reserved.

The governor also directed that the re-evaluation of answer papers, with regard to 46,806 requests received by the University, be carried out in a timely manner. While the review meeting was underway, Chief Minister along with Governor reviewed the progress of declaration of results of various examinations conducted by the University of Mumbai in summer 2017. The meeting also reviewed preparations made by the University for the Conduct of Winter Examinations scheduled to be conducted between November 8 and December 20. The governor directed that the results of the winter examination should be preferably declared within 30 days and, in a worst case scenario, within 45 days, as mandated by the Public Universities Act.

This lagging might have caused due to sudden ‘online assessment’ , the then Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh had announced that the university would conduct on-screen assessment of over 19 Lakh answer sheets to ensure a transparent, tamper-proof assessment system.

However, after a long delay in the tendering process (for the handling of the on-screen assessment), assessment began only in the month of May, amidst several glitches in the online system. After a series of glitches and delays, the university declared the results of all the 477 courses on September 19. However, the results of 9,400 students are still being held in reserve.
