Shuttler PV Sindhu nominated for Padma Bhushan award

New Delhi, September 25: The Sports Ministry has nominated Padma Shri Award winner and Indian Badminton Player PV Sindhu for Padma Bhushan which is India’s third highest civilian award on Monday. She is the second sportsperson after MS Dhoni to be nominated this year.

 

Currently, the world no.2, became the first Indian woman shuttler in Rio Olympic 2016 to win a silver medal in Olympics. She is one of the Indian badminton players after Saina Nehwal to win an Olympic medal. In 2017, she also became the first Indian ever to win Korea Open Super Series.

At the age of 17, Sindhu got the attention from all around the world when she broke into the top 20 of the BWF world ranking in September in 2012. She also became the first ever Indian women’s singles player to win Badminton World Championships medal. After receiving India’s fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri in March 2015, she became the youngest Indian to reach the final of an Olympics badminton event in 2016.

Sindhu received Arjuna Award for badminton in 2013, Padma Shri Award in 2015 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for badminton in 2016. In August 2017, under the Revenue Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, she is appointed as a Deputy Collector in Krishna District.
