Shinzo Abe to dissolve lower house on 28 Sept; Snap election on 22 Oct

Tokyo, September 26: Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe will dissolve the country’s lower house of parliament on 28th September and call national elections in October. The snap election will be held on 22nd October.

 

Addressing media on dissolving the lower house of parliament Abe said that I will dissolve the lower house on September 28. He further said that I will demonstrate strong leadership and stand at the forefront to face a national crisis. This is my responsibility as a leader and my mission as prime minister.

 

To take the advantage of the improved support from the people and disarray in the opposition camp, Abe has called for the election. Child care and education will be improved by hiking sales tax from 8 percent to 10 percent in 2019 would be redirected by Abe.

After North Korea launched two intermediate-range ballistic missiles into the Pacific Ocean, 12 northern and north-eastern prefectures are under warning system. This election will be contested between Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) versus main opposition Democratic Party and new party launched by popular Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike.

The lower house of Japan is also known as House of Representatives. The House of Councillors is the upper house. Elected for the four-year term the House of Representatives has 475 members. Of these, 238 seats are required for a majority. It is the more powerful of the two houses. It can be dissolved by the Prime Minister at will.
