Kabul, September 27: Taliban launches series of rockets on Kabul International Airport after US Secretary of Defense James Mattis and NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg arrival on Wednesday. There were no reports of casualties or immediate claim of responsibility.

The Interior Ministry said that six rockets landed near Kabul international airport hours after Mattis and Stoltenberg flew in on Wednesday, a reminder of Afghanistan's continuing insecurity.

According to TOLO News of Afghanistan, as many as 20 rockets have landed at Hamid Karzai International Airport and surrounds in the center of Kabul. Officials say the airport and immediate area is being evacuated and all flights are cancelled for now.

Mattis and Stoltenberg will meet with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, U.S. commanders and soldiers, as well as NATO's Resolute Support mission for the training of Afghan forces, Captain William Salvin said.

Mattis and Stoltenberg will also have meetings at the U.S. Embassy and hold a news conference together with Ghani, Salvin said.

Under Trump's plan, the United States will be sending more than 3,000 additional troops to Afghanistan, besides the 11,000 already on the ground, to train and advise the country's security forces.
