Patna, January 1: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has got a sharp eye for archaeology. During his, ‘Vikas Karyon ki Samiksha Yatra’, he spotted a mound in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district. He observed the mound and assumed there might be the importance of it as a historical site. Later, researchers explored the area and discovered sculptures of Lord Vishnu and Lord Buddha made of black basalt stone and a number of potsherds indicating archeological significance.

Nitish Kumar, who is famous for his love in archaeology observed the dimensions of the mound and asked chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh to contact KP Jayaswal Research Institute and Bihar Heritage Development Society and other institutions to check if the mound had been cataloged and explored. He also asked for an authentic archeological probe into the area.
K P Jayswal Research Institute visited the place on Sunday who found a number of potsherds which give a hint about the antiquity of the mound. A team of archaeologists from the heritage development society, under the leadership of its executive director Bijoy Kumar Choudhary also visited the place on Saturday who assumed the mound dates back to 1000 BC.

“Black slip wares and black and red wares found at the site appear to be of a period around 1000 BC. We also found some red furnished ware that could date back to the Neolithic period,” Executive Director of the K P Jayaswal Research Institute, Bijoy Kumar Chaudhary, said.

Now for a better exploration, the archeologists will conduct a more comprehensive exploration as the place could impact the history of the area and state.
