Punjab implements Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana to provide financial assistance to expectant mothers

Chandigarh, January 1: Finally, with an aim to provide financial aid to all the expectant mothers in three installments, from the period of the conception of the baby till the baby’s birth, Punjab has decided to implement Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

 

Notably, the Punjab government has decided to implement Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana under which a financial assistance of Rs 5000 would be given to all the expectant mothers in three installments, from the period of the conception of the baby till his birth. The grant would be disbursed in three installments to every expectant mother irrespective of any Income Cap.

Disclosing this official spokesperson of the Social Security Department said that every mother for the delivery of her first baby from January 1, 2017, onwards would be covered under this special scheme. Divulging the breakup of three installments, the spokesperson said that the first installments of Rs 1000 would be given to the expectant mother from the day of confirmation of her conception.

Similarly, the second Installment of Rs 2000 would be accorded after six months during the first anti-natal examination of the expectant mother. Likewise, the third and final installment of Rs 2000 would be handed over to the mother after the delivery and first vaccination of the baby. The spokesperson further noted that the all the eligible beneficiaries could register themselves at nearby Anganwadi Centres to avail the benefit of this flagship scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 2017 New Year’s Eve speech, announced that the scheme will be scaled up to cover 650 districts of the country. The main objective of the program is promoting the appropriate practice, care and institutional service utilization during pregnancy, delivery and lactation.
