Vidarbha cricket team defeats six-time Ranji champion Delhi in finals; bags title for first time

Indore, January 1: Vidarbha cricket team on Monday created history after winning its maiden Ranji Trophy after defeating Delhi by nine wickets in the final of India’s premier domestic tournament that was played in Indore.

 

Notably, Vidarbha registered an emphatic victory over by nine wickets in the final of Ranji Trophy and clinched the title for the first time. Chasing a target of only 29 runs, Vidarbha reached the total with the loss of one wicket i.e skipper Faiz Fazal’s wicket.

After winning the toss, opting to field first Vidarbha bowled out Delhi for only 295 runs in the first innings with Rajneesh Gurbani bowling a marvelous spell and picking up six important wickets. While Vidarbha put up a mammoth total of 547 before getting bowled out. Vidarbha’s Akshay Wadkar struck his maiden century in first-class cricket and scored unbeaten 133.

 

Pacer Navdeep Saini was the most successful bowler for Delhi, picking up of 5 wickets after conceding 135 runs after bowling 36.3 overs. However, left-arm spinner Manan Sharma remained off the field due to a knee injury which was the biggest setback for Delhi tough battled with the bat in second innings.

Delhi got all out of 280 runs with Shorey scoring another half-century making 62 runs while Nitish Rana struck 64. Vidarbha chased down the 29-run target with a day to spare at the Holkar Stadium, which hosted the title clash of the tournament for the second successive time.
