Algeria, January 10: A dessert covered with snow! This scene is very rare actually but the famous Sahara dessert is literally covered with Snow Blanket. Sahara, which is famously known as one of the warmest places on the earth rarely receives snowfall. In last 40 years, this is the 3rd time Sahara has witnessed such scene.

A crazy winter weather storm has covered the desert with heavy snow. More than 15 inches (40cm) has blanketed sand dunes across the small town of Ain Sefra, Algeria. In December 2016 also, a dusting was recorded but this is the major snowfall in the area for the 2nd time in 40 years. In 1979 a snowstorm hit the dessert but it stayed only for half an hour.

Locals of the town were literally surprised with the snow chill. They usually endure temperature around 40-degree Celsius. Snow settled on the town for the whole day and it started melting after 5 pm. The cold was the result of freezing temperature in the US and Europe.

A Russian meteorologist has said the recurrence of snowfall is Sahara Dessert is a result of much talked global warming issue. The statement is not even an individual standpoint but a view shared by members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
