New Delhi, January 11: After a cabinet meeting, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia announced that Delhi will get 1,000 new buses this year. All the buses will have standard non-air-conditioning.

The first batch will start operations from August 2018 after the procurement is concluded. “We can purchase more buses if the DDA gives us the required land to park them,” Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said.

Of the new buses, 100 will be added to Rewla Khanpur depot, 250 to Dwarka Sector 22 depot, 120 to Kharkhari Nahar, 90 to Bawana Sector 1 depot, 160 to Rani Khera-I and 140 each to Rani Khera-II and Rani Khera-III.

“We can purchase more buses if the DDA gives us the required land (to park them),” transport minister Kailash Gahlot said.

Meanwhile, 250 buses in Delhi have started accepting common mobility cards. The same card that is used in Delhi Metro can now be used in these buses as well.

According to transport department officials, the pilot programme will be extended to all 6,000 buses in the city by April.

According to CAG reports, the national capital's public transporter has been steadily making losses with no addition of new buses. The cluster scheme buses earned Rs 283 crore as revenue in 2015-16. However, the expenditure was Rs 544.35 crore and the difference of Rs 260 crore was paid by the government.
