PM Modi meets with economic experts to decide the road ahead

New Delhi, January 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attended an interactive session with over 40 economists and other experts, organized by NITI Aayog, on the theme “Economic Policy – The Road Ahead.”

Talking to reporters after the meeting, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said, PM Modi interacted with experts and secretaries who shared their views on various economic themes such as macro-economy, agriculture and rural development, employment, health and education, manufacturing and exports, urban development, infrastructure and connectivity.

He said, experts advocated for shifting focus from agricultural production to raising farmers income.

"What came out very clearly today was that the Prime Minister's call for doubling farmers' income, many expert said that we should shift from focus on increasing agricultural production to raising farmers' income by improving productivity, lowering cost, having greater efficiency, giving much greater market access to the farmers".

Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley thanked the participants for their thought-provoking suggestions and observations.

The meeting was attended by several Union Ministers who look after economic subjects. The Vice Chairman NITI Aayog Rajiv Kumar, and senior officers from the Union Government and NITI Aayog were also present.
