Gujarat ATS nabs LeT terrorist Bilal Ahmed Kawa involved in 2000 Red Fort attack from Delhi airport

New Delhi, January 11: Getting a massive breakthrough on Wednesday, Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and Delhi police have arrested Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Bilal Ahmad Kawa for alleged involvement in the terror attack on Red Fort in the year 2000.

 

Notably, the Gujarat ATS and Delhi Police in a joint operation arrested Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Bilal Ahmad Kawa from Delhi airport, who was involved in an attack on the Red Fort in 2000. The Gujarat ATS after getting a specific input informed Delhi police that Bilal Ahmed Kawa, who had been declared a proclaimed offender in the case, was travelling from Srinagar to Delhi.

Delhi police gave full assistance to Gujarat ATS and arrested Bilal Ahmed Kawa from the airport. The terrorist was handed over to the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. Interrogation of the LeT terrorist is underway.

On December 22, 2000, LeT men sneaked into the 17th-century monument and opened indiscriminate fire in which three people, including two Army jawans were killed. However, the terrorists had managed to escape through the Fort's rear wall.

The Delhi police, after conducting an inquiry into the terror attack filed a charge sheet against main accused Mohammad Arif and 21 others in February 2001. The special sessions court while hearing the matter framed charges only against 11 of accused. Arif was later sentenced to death while his four accomplices, including his wife, were given seven years in prison. Two others were given a life term.
