Pyeongchang, January 11: While Winter Olympics is soon approaching South Korea, organizers fear that the event may be too cold for spectators to show up. To keep participants and spectators save from intense cold bite, organizers are installing windshields on the Games' main stadium.

The host city Pyeongchang is one of the coldest regions in South Korea, with the temperature in February averaging minus 4.5 degrees Celsius for the past decade. Even the stadium which is the venue for opening and closing ceremony is vulnerable to the sub-zero condition. Hence, organizers are taking up the issue of cold seriously.

The installation started in late December and will be finished around Monday, the organizing committee said. For moderate heat, portable heaters will be installed also. Comfort Kit consisting of raincoats, blankets and heating pads, as well as hot food and drinks, will be provided to attendants.

“The cold could ruin the entire opening party. The fate of the event is down to the mother nature,” ruling party politician and Pyeongchang local Yeom Dong-yeol told earlier.

Many high profile guests are invited to games including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The hosts are also expecting a high-level delegation from America. So organizers are taking the highest level of initiatives to distract cold.
