Goa sends special team to review alleged Mahadeyi water blocking

Panaji, January 12: Responding quickly to the alleged media reports of blocking of Mahadeyi river water by Karnataka government near Kankumbi village on the border, the Goa has asked officials to crosscheck the substance in the reports.

Speaking to the media Goa Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar has confirmed that a team of officials under the supervision of chief engineer has been deployed to trace the ground zero. He further added that state government would take the final call after examining the findings of the report.

Earlier, some reports were surfaced regarding the alleged blocking of Mahadeyi water. The two neighboring states are fighting on the issue of inter-state water sharing dispute before the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal constituted by the Central government to address the river water -sharing issue between Goa and Karnataka. Mahadayi river, considered as the lifeline for both goa and Karnataka states originates in Karnataka and meets the Arabian Sea at Panaji in Goa.
