Mumbai, January 13: Seems like tragedy has taken a different turn as another incident where at least 4 children died and 32 have been rescued till now after a boat carrying 40 children capsized near Maharashtra’s Dahanu today. The children, from KL Ponda High School in Dahanu, were on a picnic.

The toll is likely to release as 7-8 children have been missing. Local fishermen and agencies have rescued 32 children.

District Collector Prashant Narnaware said that "Massive rescue and relief operations are underway and District Superintendent of Police and local officials are supervising the operations," he said.

The Indian Coast Guard has diverted ships that were at sea, and some ships from Mumbai are also sailing to help with the ongoing rescue operations. Helicopters from Daman, which is near Dahanu, have also been launched, a Coast Guard spokesperson said.

The boat had set off from the Parnaka Beach here. It was two nautical miles from the shore when the incident occurred. The reason points that the boat capsized due to overload.
