New Delhi, January 13: The last page of the passport which includes father's name or guardian's name, mother, spouse and address would not be there anymore. In addition, father's name will not be mentioned in it.

External Affairs Ministry (MEA) has done away with the printing of the last page of the passport. However, the existing passports will continue to remain valid till the date of expiry printed in the passport booklet.

The decision is based on the recommendations of a three-member Committee comprising officials of the Ministries of External Affairs and Women and Child Development.

"The ministry has examined the recommendation and decided that the last page of the passport and other travel documents issued under the Passports Act, 1967, and Passport Rules, 1980, would no longer be printed," the foreign ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said.

The Indian Security Press in Nasik will begin making the new passports soon, MEA spokesman said, adding that until they are designed, manufactured and made available to the ministry, the last page will continue to have the details.

Notably, Passports are issued in three colours: red, white and blue. Government officers are issued white passports, diplomats carry red ones and all others are issued blue ones. The regular blue passports also have two categories: one, where emigration checks are required and the other where they are not.
